Police treating London explosion as terrorist attack

An explosion at a subway station in southwest London early Friday is being treated as a terrorist attack by local law enforcement.

Multiple injuries, including facial burns, have been reported following the explosion, which happened just around 8 a.m. local time at Parsons Green London underground station.

Witnesses said they saw several people injured and trampled as people fled the station. One witness told The Associated Press that a train had just pulled up to the station at the time of the explosion and was packed with people.{mosads}

Photos at the District Line station show a white plastic bucket inside a supermarket shopping bag, with flames and wires visible, according to the AP.

The morning rush hour attack is under investigation. The station has been temporarily closed and people have been evacuated from the area.

London Mayor Sadiq Kahn issued a statement condemning the act of terror and cautioning residents of the city to remain vigilant.
