Trevor Noah: Trump doesn’t play games with how fast he’ll abandon you
Trevor Noah on Wednesday mocked President Trump for distancing himself from Ed Gillespie after the Republican lost the race for Virginia governor.
“Trump does not play games with how fast he will abandon you. Like, he just quit the guy out of nowhere,” Noah said during his late-night show.
“I bet you one day when the U.S. economy crashes, Trump’s gonna be like, ‘What a loser economy. I’ve never even heard of America. I’m from Sweden. Guten tag.’ ”
{mosads}The late-night host’s comments come after Gillespie was defeated Tuesday by Democrat Ralph Northam.
Trump then tweeted about the race, seeking to distance himself from the losing effort.
“Ed Gillespie worked hard but did not embrace me or what I stand for. Don’t forget, Republicans won 4 out of 4 House seats, and with the economy doing record numbers, we will continue to win, even bigger than before!” Trump tweeted.
Trump had previously tweeted in support of Gillespie but did not campaign in Virginia.
Reports emerged earlier this week he had also recorded a late robocall urging Virginia voters to support Gillespie in the race.
