‘Trump baby’ blimp expected to fly during Trump’s Australia visit
The 20-foot inflatable “Trump Baby Blimp” that flew during protests against President Trump in the United Kingdom may soon fly in Australia.
The Guardian reports that activists in Australia are in talks to use the giant balloon for protests against Trump during his expected visit with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull later this year.
No official date has been set for the protests or Trump’s meeting, according to The Guardian. Trump was invited by Turnbull when the two met in February, and will likely visit the country after the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in November.
One of the organizers of the Australia protest told The Guardian that their group was inspired by the U.K. protests.
“The ‘Trump baby’ blimp has become this kind of globally recognized symbol of opposition to Trump,” Simone White told The Guardian. “We have been in touch with the people that made the blimp and they are actually really keen to have it travel around the world. They’re excited to get the blimp to Australia. Now we’re just in the process of figuring out how to send it, which won’t be too hard.” {mosads}
The balloon, which features a baby Trump in a diaper and holding a cell phone, was created by an activist group in the United Kingdom which crowdfunded more than $44,000 to create the blimp.
It first flew during protests against Trump in London and in Edinburgh, Scotland earlier this month. The London rally alone drew more than 250,000 protesters.
White said she is expecting a large turnout for the protests in Australia.
“We’re expecting an absolutely enormous protest. We are expecting this could be one of the biggest protests in Australia in a long time,” White added. “Our goal, like the goal of the protesters in the U.K., is to make Trump feel like he is not welcome here.”
