NASCAR postpones Daytona 500 due to rain after Trump visit

NASCAR announced on Sunday afternoon that it would be postponing its 62nd Daytona 500, which kicked off with a visit from President Trump earlier in the day, due to inclement weather.

“Today’s 62nd running of the #DAYTONA500 has been postponed due to inclement weather, the stock-car racing company confirmed in a tweet on Sunday. “The race will resume on Monday at 4 PM ET on FOX.”

According to The Associated Press, the postponement comes after the racing event was already delayed twice earlier in the day. The forecast from The Weather Channel show partly cloudy skies for the Daytona area on Monday.

The first delay reportedly took place shortly after the president and first lady Melania Trump went for a ceremonial lap around the around Daytona International Speedway in the presidential motorcade. He is the first president to ever do so, Fox News reports

Trump, who was met with loud applause from fans upon his arrival to the track on Sunday, was also able to serve as grand marshal for the race. Trump is the second president in history to hold the title, after President George W. Bush in 2004.
