Ex-Trump adviser, impeachment witness Fiona Hill gets book deal

Fiona Hill, the former White House adviser on Russia who testified before the House Intelligence Committee during the presidential impeachment hearings last year, is set to release a book about the future of a polarized America.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Books & Media announced Wednesday that they have acquired the book, which is titled “There Is Nothing for You Here: Opportunity in an Age of Decline.”

Hill’s testimony last year during the impeachment inquiry against President Trump helped Democrats make their case that the president allegedly leveraged U.S. military aid to persuade Ukraine to launch an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.

Trump was impeached by the House but later acquitted in the GOP-controlled Senate.

Houghton Mifflin senior editor Alex Littlefield said in a statement that Hill’s book, which is set for release in the fall of 2021, offers a “unique perspective on the problems facing the United States.”

“Growing up in coalmining country in the northeast of England, I was told by my Dad that I should get out—that I should go to London, or Europe, or America. ‘There is nothing for you here, pet,’ he told me,” Hill said in a statement.

Hill is one of several former White House officials who have struck book deals. Former national security adviser John Bolton recently released a memoir, and last week Houghton Mifflin Harcourt announced they are also publishing a book by former FBI counterintelligence agent Peter Strzok.

During her testimony last year, Hill maintained that Russia was working to divide the country, saying that “we are running out of time to stop them” from interfering in the next election.

“[M]y personal and professional lives have led me from the United Kingdom to Russia and finally to the United States, where I have found great opportunity but also many of the same challenges,” Hill said. “I am writing this book to share my story, but also to share the lessons I’ve learned about how we can revitalize our country’s forgotten places.”
