Mourners gathered outside the Supreme Court on Friday evening to pay their respects to late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg shortly after her death.

The mourners sang “Amazing Grace.”

People took to Twitter to share photos of the scene, including images of candles and reports of mourners crying as they paid tribute to Ginsburg, who died at the age of 87.

The flag outside the Supreme Court was lowered to half-staff within the hour of Ginsburg’s death being made public.

The Supreme Court said in a statement that Ginsburg died “surrounded by her family at her home in Washington, D.C., due to complications of metastatic pancreas cancer.”

The news sent shockwaves through the nation and Washington, D.C., as people mourned the iconic liberal justice, who for decades championed women’s rights.

The vacant seat also raises questions heading into the 2020 presidential election, as President Trump could make a last-minute nomination to fill the spot.
