Christie released from the hospital after COVID-19 diagnosis

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) was released from the hospital Saturday morning, exactly one week after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

“I want to thank the extraordinary doctors & nurses who cared for me for the last week,” Christie tweeted. “Thanks to my family & friends for their prayers. I will have more to say about all of this next week.”

Christie tested positive for the coronavirus on Oct. 3, just two days after President Trump and first lady Melania Trump tested positive for COVID-19.

The president returned to the White House from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center this past Monday after spending four days receiving medical care for the disease.

While he experienced only mild symptoms, Christie checked himself into Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey as a “precautionary measure” due to his history of asthma.

Christie was at the White House for Trump’s announcement two weeks ago that he was nominating Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, with the former New Jersey governor spotted interacting closely with several other attendees without a mask.

The former governor also interacted closely with Trump to assist with his preparation for the first presidential debate. That group included former White House counselor Kellyanne Conway and Hope Hicks, both of whom have tested positive for the virus.

Christie said the group did not wear masks and that nobody showed symptoms at that point.

Meanwhile, multiple people in Trump’s orbit have tested positive for the coronavirus, including Conway, Hicks, press secretary Kayleigh McEnany and top aide Stephen Miller.
