2 dead, 5 hurt in Quebec City stabbing

Two people have been killed and five injured in Quebec City after a 24-year-old man dressed in medieval clothing attacked random individuals with a sword on Halloween night, CNN reported.

The unidentified suspect was arrested around 1 a.m. on Sunday. The five injured were rushed to the hospital with “severe lacerations” according to a police spokesperson. CNN reported the suspect was also taken to a hospital for evaluation.

“Everything leads us to believe that his motives were personal in nature. Up until now he has not been linked to any terrorist organization,” Quebec City Police Chief Roger Pigeon said during a press conference on Sunday.

The suspect is expected to appear in court later on Sunday via video conference.

“Quebec is waking up after a night of horror. I have no words to describe such a tragedy. I offer my condolences to the loved ones of the victims,” tweeted Quebec premier François Legault.

Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau tweeted, “My heart breaks for the loved ones of the two people killed in last night’s horrific attack in Quebec City. I’m also wishing a full recovery to the injured. We’re keeping you in our thoughts and will be there for you. To all the first responders, thank you for your critical work.”
