Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and her husband Douglas Emhoff took to Twitter Thursday to share a message of holiday cheer on the first day of Hannukah from their “big modern family.”
In a video greeting Harris and Emhoff, who is Jewish, expressed their love for Hanukkah, with Harris dubbing it one of her “favorite holidays” because it brings “light where there has been darkness.”
“There is so much work to be done in the world to bring light,” Harris said.
The Festival of Lights is a celebration of Tikkun Olam — fighting for justice and the dignity of all people, Harris said.
“It’s about rededication”
“And it’s about joy,” Emhoff added. “And it’s about spreading joy around the world with your family, and sharing it with your family and your friends and your neighbors and your community. And that’s important right now.”
Emhoff is the first second gentleman and the first Jewish spouse to serve in the White House alongside a president or vice president.
The duo ended their message by lighting a candle to note the beginning of the holiday and wishing a Happy Hanukkah to all.
