HBO Max strikes deal to become available to subscribers on Roku

Seven months after launching, HBO Max is coming to Roku after WarnerMedia and the streaming platform broke a deal, according to a joint statement released Wednesday.

Beginning on Thursday, Roku users will be able to access HBO Max content, which boasts a collection of popular shows like “The Undoing,” starring Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman and Golden Globe-winner Hugh Grant, and “Euphora,” starring Emmy-winner Zendaya.

The news of the deal comes as HBO Max gears up for the anticipated release of “Wonder Woman: 1984” on Christmas. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the streaming network has opted to release all new content simultaneously to theaters and HBO Max. 

“We believe that all entertainment will be streamed and we are thrilled to partner with HBO Max to bring their incredible library of iconic entertainment brands and blockbuster slate of direct-to-streaming theatrical releases to the Roku households with more than 100 million people that have made Roku the No. 1 TV streaming platform in America,” said Scott Rosenberg, senior vice president of Roku’s platform business.

Tony Goncalves, chief revenue officer of WarnerMedia, echoed Rosenberg’s excitement over the partnership.

“HBO Max is an incredible product with an unparalleled content offering that puts the consumer at the center, and we’re thrilled that Roku users will be able to experience all the great stories HBO Max has to offer,” he said.
