FBI seeks assistance identifying Capitol rioter who carried Confederate flag

The FBI is seeking public assistance in identifying a demonstrator who carried a Confederate flag at the riot that broke out at the Capitol last week.

The FBI’s Washington Field Office issued the request late Sunday seeking “the public’s assistance in identifying this individual who made unlawful entry into US Capitol on Jan. 6.” The man is seen carrying the Confederate flag over his shoulder in several images in addition to holding the flag in a group of rioters.

The FBI announced last week that it was seeking the public’s help in identifying individuals who were “actively instigating” violence in Washington, D.C., after pro-Trump rioters demonstrating against the certification of the Electoral College vote in the 2020 presidential election breached the Capitol.

Lawmakers, reporters, staffers and others were evacuated from the House and Senate chambers amid the riot. Five people, including Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, died in connection with the mob storming the Capitol building.

Threats were heard against Vice President Pence and other lawmakers, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.)

The FBI and Metropolitan Police Department have both issued photos of accused rioters and sought information from the public on social media.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) told Democratic lawmakers during a private call on Monday that an impeachment vote against President Trump will be held on Wednesday.

Pelosi previously told Democratic lawmakers that they will move forward with impeachment proceedings against the president if Pence and Trump’s Cabinet do not invoke the 25th Amendment and remove him from office.
