Prosecutors subpoena NYC school in pursuit of info from Trump confidant: report

Manhattan prosecutors have subpoenaed a New York City private school in pursuit of information from a top official at the Trump Organization, people familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal in a new report Thursday. 

The subpoena is seeking information from the Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School in Manhattan about the organization’s chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, whose two grandchildren attend the school. According to the Journal report, from 2012 to 2019 either Weisselberg or Trump signed tuition checks for the children totaling more than $500,000.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office is thought to be looking into whether the Weisselbergs evaded taxes with the payment situation, the Journal reported.

The Manhattan-based private school has 1,300 students from pre-K through high school. Tuition is more than $50,000 this academic year, according to the Journal. 

Prosecutors subpoenaed the mother of the children, Jennifer Weisselberg — the ex-wife of Allen Weisselberg’s son — in April, according to the report. They asked for information related to the Trump Organization, including tax records, net-worth statements and financial records through her divorce of the Weisselberg son. 

Weisselberg told the Journal that she told prosecutors that the tuition for her children at the school was part of her ex-husband’s compensation from the Trump Organization. 

The latest development comes as Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. continues his investigation into Trump. According to the Journal, Vance’s office has been pursuing Allen Weisselberg’s cooperation for months.
