Republican New York Rep. Elise Stefanik (R) in a Saturday Instagram post announced that she’s pregnant with her first child.
“We are absolutely overjoyed to announce that our small family of two will soon be three,” the 36-year-old congresswoman wrote.
She added, “We’re so excited to share that we are expecting a baby this fall and we cannot wait to meet our precious bundle of joy.”
The post contained a photo of Stefanik alongside her husband Matt Manda, both pictured cradling Stefanik’s baby bump with their hands.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders were among the politicos who commented messages of congratulations.
The couple thanked their followers for the warm wishes, writing, “We are truly blessed.”
The news of Stefanik’s pregnancy comes shortly after the GOP
voted to replace embattled Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) with Stefanik as the party’s conference chair last month. Stefanik claimed victory after a 134-46 vote. The closed-door election occurred two days after the party voted to oust Cheney over her criticism of former President Trump.
