Queen Elizabeth recognizes Kerry from video message: ‘I saw you on the telly’

Queen Elizabeth on Tuesday night gave U.S. climate envoy John Kerry a cheery welcome after seemingly recognizing him from a video message he delivered while in London.

“I saw you on the telly the other night doing William’s Earthshot Prize thing,” the 95-year-old monarch told Kerry as she greeted him at Windsor Castle.

The Queen was referencing Kerry’s appearance at Sunday’s Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony in London, which was televised on BBC. This inaugural event, which rewards honorees for their contributions to environmental sustainability in five categories, was hosted by Prince William, the Queen’s grandson.

During his video appearance, Kerry reportedly told event attendees, “The finalists and winners that we recognize this evening remind us that we do have an incredible ability to turn the improbable into reality if we work together.”

Five honorees were each awarded one million pounds, or nearly $1.4 million, for their efforts during the Earthshot Awards ceremony.

“We are alive at the most consequential time in human history,” Prince William said during the awards ceremony, according to The New York Times. “This is the decisive decade. Time is running out. Many of the answers are already out there.”
