Paternity tests and turtles: Uber reveals weirdest things left behind by riders
(NEXSTAR) – Have you ever forgotten a toupee in the car? What about your pet turtle? No? Well at least one person has, Uber says.
The ride-hailing company released a report Wednesday detailing the most common – and most unusual – things riders left behind in vehicles.
The frequently forgotten items – clothing, luggage, headphones – aren’t particularly surprising. But the list of the 50 most unique items left behind over the past 12 months is far more eye-catching.
Apparently, someone left behind a paternity test in an Uber this year (hopefully they read the results before they got in the car). Another person left behind a frontal hair toupee. Some left behind live animals, like a pet turtle or two containers of spiders.
Some high-value items – like “expensive blueberries,” a framed Taylor Swift autograph, a car engine and “1000 bucks” – were forgotten. Others just had sentimental value. One rider alerted a driver: “I left a leaf in your car that’s much needed.”
Others found themselves hungry when they left behind a jar of oysters, a whole smoked pork belly, or Benihana garlic butter.
In case those weren’t weird enough, the rest of the list will leave you with even more questions. (“I lost my wizard woman,” Uber claims one rider reported. “Waist beads and a burrito steamer,” reads another lost item report.)
People were most likely to lose items when taking Uber rides at night, the company says. The peak time for leaving things behind is between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., according to the Lost & Found Index.
The most forgetful city was Miami, followed by Los Angeles and Atlanta.
If you forget something in an Uber, you should try and contact the driver directly on the app, the ride-hailing service says. If it’s your phone that you’ve lost, you can reach out via the website.
