Walmart settlement: Wednesday is the last chance to claim up to $500

(NEXSTAR) – If you shopped at Walmart during the last five years, you may be eligible to claim up to $500 as part of a class action settlement if you act quickly – the deadline to file is Wednesday.

The settlement stems from an October 2022 lawsuit filed in Florida, alleging that Walmart shoppers who bought sold-by-weight meat, poultry, pork and seafood products, along with certain bagged citrus items, including organic oranges, grapefruit, tangerines and navel oranges, were charged more than the lowest price advertised in store.

Walmart agreed to settle the case with a $45 million payment, but denied any wrongdoing.

Shoppers who bought any of those items from a Walmart in the U.S. or Puerto Rico between Oct. 19, 2018, and Jan. 19, 2024, can submit a claim on the settlement administrator’s website. Those eligible for a payout who also have a receipt could receive 2% of the amount spent on those items, up to $500.

Customers who no longer have their receipts can still receive money as well. Depending on the amount of items they say they bought, the payouts vary between $10 and $25.

The submission process asks which payment method is preferred and offers Venmo, Zelle, ACH, a pre-paid MasterCard, or paper checks for those who don’t have access to electronic payments.

The portal to submit a claim will close on June 5 at 11:59:59 p.m. PDT.

A final approval hearing is scheduled for June 12 at 10 a.m. ET.
