Marjorie Taylor Greene ‘thrilled’ with JD Vance being vice presidential pick

(NEXSTAR) — One of the biggest headlines out of the Republican National Convention this week was former President Donald Trump naming J.D. Vance, the junior senator from Ohio, as his running mate.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) is among those rooting for Vance, someone she was quick to endorse when he was running for Congress.

“I’m so proud of J.D. Vance,” Greene told Nexstar at the RNC on Thursday. “I was the first member of Congress to endorse him when he ran in the Senate. So I know him well and I’m thrilled.”

Not everyone shares Greene’s sentiments. There have been doubts about his joining Trump’s ticket, after previously calling Trump “a total fraud,” “a moral disaster,” and “America’s Hitler.”

That hasn’t deterred Greene’s excitement for Vance.

“I love for people to change their mind about President Trump,” she explained. “We’re Americans, we’re allowed to change our mind, and he changed his mind about President Trump after the first four years of his presidency and that’s a great thing.”

Greene went on to say he is “completely aligned with me ideologically.”

“I’m so excited for J.D.,” she said.

Earlier in the week, Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) shared similar sentiments while speaking with Nexstar.

“I hate to lose him as a colleague,” Johnson told Nexstar’s Chip Brewster. “He’s highly intelligent, highly articulate. A wonderful life story, was a real ally in the United States Senate. President Trump had a wealth of talent to choose from.”
