The Switch Up Election Series — In conversation with Rep. Joyce Beatty

Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio) questions Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg during a hearing in the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill Oct. 23, 2019, in Washington, DC..

Rep. Joyce Beatty (D) has represented Ohio’s 3rd Congressional District since 2013. Much of her work on Capitol Hill has focused on women’s rights and Black rights.

She was the first-ever chair of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion and was instrumental in passing the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act.

In the inaugural episode of the election series, The Switch Up sat down with Beatty to discuss diversity, equity and inclusion; the power of Black voters; and her continued support for President Biden amid growing calls for him to suspend his 2024 reelection bid.
