Potential McCaskill challenger has $2.7M: report

Rep. Ann Wagner (R-Mo.) has raised over $2.7 million as she prepares to potentially challenge Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) in 2018, according to a new report.

Wagner’s congressional campaign committee will report $2,767,789 on hand in its April quarterly report, McClatchy said Tuesday, citing federal election documents.

Wagner raised $804,264 during the last three months, it said, her most successful fundraising quarter.

{mosads}McCaskill is one of 10 Democratic senators facing reelection next year in states President Trump carried in November.

Republicans consider McCaskill’s seat a target. Trump won Missouri by about 19 points.

Wagner has not formally declared she will run against McCaskill but is believed to have a close ally in Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.).

McClatchy said McCaskill has not released her first-quarter report for 2016, which is due April 15.

McCaskill’s most recent filings show she had $781,519 at the end of 2016, a number that is expected to rise once she submits totals for the first three months of this year.

McCaskill pitched unity during a fundraiser last month, urging supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to help her reelection bid.

“I want you to be part of our effort,” she said during a March event.  “We can’t get divided in a state like Missouri, or we’re cooked.”
