GOP senator: Trump’s travel ban ‘too broad’

Republican Sen. Susan Collins (Maine) said Sunday that she does not agree with President Trump’s recent tweet that the United States needs his “travel ban as an extra level of safety” following the attacks in London.

“I think that the travel ban is too broad and that is why it has been rejected by the courts,” Collins told CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

Collins, who sits on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said the United States needs to do a “better job of vetting.”

{mosads}Collins’s comments come one day after Trump renewed calls for courts to allow his executive order on travel and immigration to move forward following an attack in London that left seven people dead.

“We need to be smart, vigilant and tough. We need the courts to give us back our rights. We need the Travel Ban as an extra level of safety!” Trump tweeted Saturday evening following reports of the attack.
