Phoenix airport terminal to be named after McCain

How I imagine McCain is reacting to Trump right now.

The Phoenix City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to name a terminal in the city’s airport after Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

Mayor Greg Stanton previously proposed designating Terminal 3 in Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in McCain’s honor. The council first voted to support the measure last month, and the city’s Heritage Commission, which reviews city naming proposals, approved it on Monday, according to local media.

“I have rarely felt at once so honored and yet so unworthy of an honor as I do today,” McCain said in a statement.

McCain’s daughter, Meghan McCain, also thanked the city council.

McCain announced in July he had been diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. He has been undergoing treatment since.

He returned to Arizona on Sunday for physical therapy and rehabilitation, and is expected to return to Washington in January.

Terminal 3 is undergoing a $590 million remodeling project, which is expected to be finished by 2020, local media reported.

One of the airport’s other terminals is named after former Sen. Barry Goldwater (R-Ariz.).
