Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) on Friday expressed support for her one-time running mate Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) after his family announced that he has chosen to discontinue medical treatment of his aggressive brain cancer.
Palin was the GOP vice presidential nominee during McCain’s White House campaign against Barack Obama in 2008.
{mosads}Earlier Friday, McCain’s family issued a statement announcing the Arizona Republican would no longer be receiving medical treatment more than a year after he was first diagnosed.
His cancer was discovered in July 2017 after he had surgery to remove a blood clot above his left eye.
“In the year since, John has surpassed expectations for his survival. But the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict. With his usual strength of will, he has now chosen to discontinue medical treatment,” McCain’s family said in a statement.
The announcement came less than a week before the senator’s 82nd birthday.
