Kaine mocks Trump over UN laughter, resurfaces old tweet calling Obama a ‘laughing stock’

Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine (Va.) mocked President Trump over an old criticism of former President Obama after world leaders chuckled on Tuesday when Trump boasted about his administration’s accomplishments.

Kaine, who was Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s running mate in 2016, quoted a 2014 tweet in which Trump complained that Obama was a “laughing stock to the entire World” and suggested the country needed a “truly great leader.”

“I agree,” Kaine responded on Tuesday.

{mosads}Kaine’s remark came shortly after an audience of world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly chuckled during the opening remarks of Trump’s speech.

“In less than two years, my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country,” Trump said.

The laughs grew louder after Trump added “so true.”

Trump then smiled and paused, before responding: “I didn’t expect that reaction, but that’s OK.”

The president often boasts that his administration has accomplished more than any other administration during a similar time frame.

He touted his administration in May as the most successful over a 17-month period, which followed his claim that he’d had “one of the most successful 13 weeks in the history of the presidency” to start his term.
