The woman who first accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault has provided the Senate Judiciary Committee with sworn declarations from four people who attest to her claims.
The documents, first obtained by USA Today, show that Christine Blasey Ford’s husband and three friends corroborated that she disclosed to them at various points in recent years that she was allegedly assaulted. The testimonies will reportedly be used during Ford’s hearing on Thursday before the committee.
Ford’s husband wrote that his wife first disclosed she had an experience with sexual assault around the time they got married, and she later shared full details during a 2012 therapy session, as reported by The Washington Post.
{mosads}Ford’s friend Adela Gildo-Mazzon said she first heard about the alleged incident during a 2013 dinner with Ford. Gildo-Mazzon contacted Ford’s attorneys on Sept. 16, she added.
Documents from Keith Koegler show Ford told him of the assault in 2016 in light of the controversy surrounding the sentencing of Stanford University student Brock Turner, who was convicted of rape.
A fourth declaration came from Ford’s neighbor and friend, Rebecca White, who said she heard about the alleged assault in 2017.
Ford and Kavanaugh are both set to testify about her claim on Thursday.
Ford alleged that Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed, groped her and attempted to remove her clothes during a high school party in the 1980s, then covered her mouth to stifle her screams.
Kavanaugh has repeatedly denied the claim, asserting in a Fox News interview that he has never sexually assaulted anyone and vowing not to withdraw his nomination.
President Trump and some Republicans have in recent days more aggressively attacked Ford’s credibility, questioning why she waited decades to come forward with her claim and suggesting the allegation is part of a Democratic campaign to “smear” Kavanaugh.
The judge faces a second allegation from Deborah Ramirez, who alleged that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her during a college party in the 1980s. Kavanaugh has denied that allegation as well.
