Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) had surgery on Thursday to repair a fracture in his shoulder, his office said Friday.
His spokesman, David Popp, said the surgery in Louisville, Ky., was successful.
{mosads}“Senator McConnell had successful surgery yesterday in Louisville, Kentucky, to repair a fracture in his shoulder,” Popp said in a statement. “The surgery was performed without incident, and the Leader is grateful to the surgical team for their skill.”
The surgery comes after McConnell tripped and fell at home on his patio earlier this month.
McConnell tweeted a photo of himself earlier this month, saying that he broke his shoe in the injury just as Duke basketball star Zion Williamson did earlier this year.
McConnell, 77, worked from home after the injury, including making calls to fellow senators about the response to recent mass shootings.
McConnell has said there will be a discussion about what legislation can pass that will respond to the shootings, while Democrats are pressuring him to hold a vote on a House-passed bill to strengthen the background check system.
