Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), a 2020 presidential contender, joined calls for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh to be impeached on Sunday following newly reported allegations of sexual misconduct against him.
{mosads}“Last year the Kavanaugh nomination was rammed through the Senate without a thorough examination of the allegations against him,” Warren tweeted Sunday.
“Confirmation is not exoneration, and these newest revelations are disturbing. Like the man who appointed him, Kavanaugh should be impeached,” she continued, referring to President Trump.
Democratic presidential candidates including Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro have also called for the justice’s impeachment after a report published by The New York Times late Saturday detailed another allegation of sexual assault against the justice.
The Times reported that one of Kavanaugh’s former male classmates witnessed him allegedly press his genitals against a woman without her consent. The allegation had not yet been investigated by the FBI, according to the Times.
Kavanaugh has denied all of the allegations he has faced, calling them politically motivated. He also declined to answer questions about the new allegations to the Times.
Trump came to Kavanaugh’s defense over Twitter on Sunday, lashing out at the news media and what he called the “Radical Left Democrats” for trying to “scare” Kavanaugh “into turning Liberal.”
“Now the Radical Left Democrats and their Partner, the LameStream Media, are after Brett Kavanaugh again, talking loudly of their favorite word, impeachment. He is an innocent man who has been treated HORRIBLY,” he tweeted. “Such lies about him. They want to scare him into turning Liberal!”
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) also called out The New York Times over the report and said that “this article just shows the obsession with the far left with trying to smear Justice Kavanaugh by going 30 years back with anonymous sources.”
