Senate Democrat: Waltz was ‘fall guy’ for Hegseth

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said that national security adviser Mike Waltz has become the “fall guy” for the administration’s mistakes on national security and that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth should resign as well.

“He’s the fall guy. The one who should go is the secretary of Defense,” Blumenthal said.

“This entire national security establishment of the Trump administration is a clown show except they’re playing with real guns and bullets,” he said. “We should be very afraid.”

Multiple news outlets reported Thursday that Waltz is stepping down from his position after only three months on the job.

Waltz had come under scrutiny for adding journalist Jeffrey Goldberg to a text chain on the Signal app over which Hegseth shared sensitive information about a pending military attack on Houthi rebels in Yemen.
