Warren planning April release of new book, ‘Persist’

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is planning an April release of her new book, “Persist,” about the senator’s experiences and perspectives.

Henry Holt and Company announced the book in an email release on Wednesday. It is set for release on April 20.

Warren said in a statement that she wrote the book because “I remain as committed as ever to fighting for an America that works for everyone.”

She added that the book, which the Associated Press reports will refer to her 2020 presidential campaign but is not a campaign memoir, was “especially personal” because “I bring the pieces of who I am to the fight for real change, and I passionately believe that we are in a moment when extraordinary changes are possible.”

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but a portion of the proceeds from the book will be donated to several food banks.

The phrase “persist” became associated with Warren in 2017 after she gave a fiery speech on the Senate floor opposing the nomination of Jeff Sessions for attorney general.

After the Senate voted to keep her from speaking, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) defended the decision in a speech.

“Sen. Warren was giving a lengthy speech. She had appeared to violate the rule. She was warned. She was given an explanation,” McConnell said. “Nevertheless, she persisted.”
