Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) is the most prolific tweeter in Congress so far this year, according to a study by the firm Hamilton Place Strategies.

The study, conducted in April, found that Cornyn leads every member of Congress in both parties with 2,198 tweets in the first three months of 2021. He averages 24 tweets per day, according to the study.

The analysis gained attention after Texas Monthly published an article Monday about Cornyn’s activity on Twitter. Cornyn tweeted in response on Tuesday, poking fun at the study.

The study found fellow Republicans Rep. Andy Biggs (Ariz.), Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Rep. Matt Gaetz (Fla.) behind Cornyn on the leaderboard, while Rep. Dwight Evans (D-Pa.) was found to have tweeted the most on the Democratic side with 1,740 tweets through the end of March.

The study also shows that Democrats are more active on the social media platform than their counterparts, tweeting 87 percent more this year.

The firm found that COVID-19 was a major topic for both parties, with lawmakers sending 27,563 tweets about the ongoing pandemic. Democrats tweeted more about the virus in the first quarter of the year with 11,931 tweets to Republicans’ 5,705 tweets.

The study was conducted using tweets and retweets from accounts included in CSPAN’s “Members of Congress” Twitter list between Jan. 1 and March 31.
