McConnell: Democrats plotting ‘complete assault’ on economy
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Thursday condemned Democrats for their economic policies, saying they have destroyed progress that was made before the coronavirus pandemic hit.
McConnell, speaking at a Kentucky Farm Bureau event, called Democratic policies an “assault” on the nation’s economic structure.
“A complete assault on what was the most productive economy in 50 years the month before the pandemic hit,” McConnell said of the Democrats’ $3.5 trillion spending bill.
The minority leader continued to describe the legislation as a “$3.5 to $5 trillion tax increase on every productive part of society.”
After a bitter battle within their own party, House Democrats finally came to an agreement and voted to advance the bill on Tuesday.
That vote allowed work to begin on a budget proposal while setting a Sept. 27 timetable for the bipartisan infrastructure bill to be voted on. No Republican in the House voted to pass the budget resolution.
McConnel also went after the $1.9 trillion infrastructure-oriented American Rescue Plan, labeling it as “the first thing [Democrats] did wrong.”
He added that Democratic policies have created inflation and have contributed to country’s labor shortage.
Along with his comments on the economy, McConnell called for people to get vaccinated against the coronavirus and discussed the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan.
His comments came prior to news of explosions Thursday at the airport in Kabul.
