Sen. Capito tests positive for COVID-19
Sen. Shelly Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) said in a statement that she has tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.
Capito said she isn’t experiencing symptoms and plans to quarantine for five days, guidelines issued by the attending physician and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“As I have routinely tested, today I received a positive COVID-19 test. Thankfully, I am asymptomatic,” Capito said in a statement.
Capito is among a host of lawmakers who have tested positive for the coronavirus in recent weeks, though a majority have been members of the House. Many have said they were infected in breakthrough cases and encouraged the public to get vaccinated after experiencing mild symptoms.
Some lawmakers returning from a trip to Ukraine also tested positive, including Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-N.J.).
Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Jim Cooper (R-Tenn.), Sean Casten (D-Ill.), and Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa) all announced within the last month that they have also tested positive for the virus. they have tested positive for the virus in the past month.
