Amy Schumer flips to back Cuomo in NY governor’s race
Actress and comedian Amy Schumer flipped to support New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) on Tuesday, having previously donated $10,000 to his rival for the Democratic gubernatorial primary, actress Cynthia Nixon.
“I wanted to vote Nixon, but sadly, I don’t believe she would know what the heck to do,” Schumer wrote on Instagram Tuesday.
“She needs to be able to pressure the state legislature in stuff but I don’t believe she has enough connections upstate,” Schumer wrote. “But I love her and think if anyone is inclined voting Nixon is cool.”{mosads}
Schumer had previously backed Nixon, contributing $10,000 to her campaign, according to the New York Post.
“We’re very grateful for Amy’s support,” Nixon spokeswoman Lauren Hitt told the Post at the time.
Cuomo has been endorsed by The New York Times and the New York Daily News.
The incumbent governor has consistently led Nixon by a wide margin. A Siena College poll released Monday placed him 41 points ahead in the race.
Voters will choose the Democratic candidate for governor Thursday. Whoever wins is expected to take the governorship easily in the midterms.
