Three people were killed and eight were wounded in a shooting in Fort Worth, Texas, Monday night, police said.

Shortly before midnight, several men began firing indiscriminately into a crowd that had gathered in the Como community of Fort Worth, said Officer Daniel Segura, a department spokesperson.

One person was declared dead at the scene and two others succumbed to their injuries at local hospitals. Eight additional people were treated for gunshot wounds, Segura said.

Fort Worth police detectives have not yet identified any suspects, he added.

“We cannot tolerate this callous act of violence in our community and investigators are working tirelessly to bring the suspects to justice,” Segura said.

The Como neighborhood held its annual Fourth of July celebration, known as ComoFest, earlier in the day. Segura said Monday night’s shooting was “separate from and unrelated to” the event.

Segura added that the department has extra officers working on the Fourth of July holiday.

“We also recognize that our community needs to be assured that the Fort Worth Police are doing everything possible to ensure the safety of our city during the holiday events for July 4th,” he said.

Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker said Tuesday that she was “devastated” by the news of the shooting.

“My heart breaks for the victims, their loved ones, and the entire Como community that works to build positivity and celebration in their community and our city,” Parker said in a tweet.
