Lawmaker invites Trump to give State of the Union from Michigan statehouse
Michigan’s House Speaker Lee Chatfield (R) is inviting President Trump to the state to deliver his State of the Union address in the House chamber of the state capitol.
{mosads}“Due to the unavailability of the United States House of Representatives for your State of the Union address, I would like to extend to you an official invitation to deliver your address in the House chamber in the Michigan State Capitol,” Chatfield writes in the letter inviting Trump.
President @realDonaldTrump, due to the unavailability of the US House for your #SOTU Address, I would like to extend to you an official invitation to deliver your important address in the Michigan House chamber. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) asked Trump to postpone the address, scheduled for Jan. 29, unless the partial government shutdown has ended, citing safety concerns. The State of the Union address is traditionally given on the floor of the U.S. House.
Chatfield, who has served in Michigan’s House since 2015, tweeted to Trump on Friday extending the invitation.
“Washington, D.C., may be bogged down in partisan politics, but Michigan is different,” the letter reads.
Ronna McDaniel, chairwoman of the Republican National Committee and an ardent supporter of Trump, retweeted Chatifield’s invitation.
The American people deserve to hear from @realDonaldTrump about the state of our union.
Nancy Pelosi’s opposition begs the question: Are Democrats afraid of the public hearing about all of the progress we’ve made?https://t.co/8up08I4Ude

Chatifield ends his letter saying “we are ready and available to host at your convenience.”
