West Virginia University student arrested for allegedly threatening to go on a shooting spree

A student at West Virginia University was arrested Wednesday for allegedly threatening to go on a shooting spree.

Cheickna Kagnassy, a 21-year-old student from Columbia, Md., was arrested and charged with making “terroristic threats,” West Virginia University said in a statement Thursday.

University police acted based on a tip that Kagnassy had allegedly spoken about carrying out a “shooting spree” and then committing suicide.

{mosads}No weapons were found at Kagnassy’s residence, Deputy Chief Phil Scott was quoted as saying in the statement. 

“Our number one concern is always the safety of the University community and this provides an example of the system working exactly the way it should,” Chief W.P. Chedester said. “Someone saw something and said something. We investigated and found sufficient reason to take action, all within less than 24 hours.” 

Kagnassy has been placed in the North Central Regional Jail for arraignment, with a $75,000 bond.
