The city of Las Vegas is allowing drivers to pay their parking tickets with school supply donations in place of cash.
Earlier this month, the city council members unanimously voted to greenlight the program, which applies to parking tickets issued from June 19 to July 19.
{mosads}A bulletin sent out by the Las Vegas City Council states that drivers who receive parking infractions during the period will be able to satisfy their tickets by “bringing new, unwrapped school supplies of equal or greater value to their fine” to the city’s parking services office.
“This must be done within 30 days of the citation date and a purchase receipt for the donation is required,” the bulletin reads. “In addition, only nonpublic safety citations are eligible for this program.”
Classroom supplies being accepted for the program include pencils, pens, erasers, index cards, disinfecting wipes, scissors and rulers.
The city council said it first adopted an ordinance authorizing the establishment of this program in 2016.
