The New York police are investigating a woman who climbed over a fence barrier into a lion exhibit at the Bronx Zoo.
The woman reportedly posted a video to Instagram in which she climbed over the barrier and approached and waved at the lion. The post is captioned, “I REALLY HAVE NO FEAR OF NOTHING BREATHING!!”
As of Tuesday night, no arrest had been made, according to The Washington Post.
The Hill reached out to the New York Police Department for comment.
The Bronx Zoo told The Hill that it received a report Saturday that a person bypassed the “visitor safety barrier” at the African lion exhibit.
“This action was a serious violation and unlawful trespass that could have resulted in serious injury or death,” the statement read. “Barriers and rules are in place to keep both visitors, staff and animals safe.”
In the posted video, a man tells the woman as she begins to climb over the fence, “You’re not supposed to do that” repeatedly, and the woman replies, “I want to get closer to him.”
Another zoo visitor talks to the man later in the video saying “Can you tell her to get back?”
“I told her. She don’t listen to me,” he answered.
People have been caught trespassing in zoo exhibits across the country, resulting in punishments like losing a season pass, charges for trespassing, fines and probation, according to The Washington Post.
