A white former police officer in Texas who has been charged with murder after shooting a black woman in her home has reportedly been released on bond.
Aaron Dean, 34, posted bond Monday night after his arrest, The Associated Press reported, citing jail records. He had been held on a $200,000 bond after the shooting that started with a nonemergency call about an open door.
{mosads}Body camera footage posted by the AP shows Dean walking up to 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson’s front door. The video then shows him going to the side of her house and firing through the window just after shouting for the person inside to show their hands.
Dean resigned over the incident.
Interim Police Chief Ed Kraus on Monday said there was no indication the officers knocked on the front door, and Dean reportedly didn’t identify himself as a police officer.
He also said the Dean would have been fired if he didn’t resign.
“Nobody looked at this video and said that there’s any doubt that this officer acted inappropriately,” Kraus was quoted as saying by the AP.
