Georgia police are on the hunt to find a convicted rapist who was mistakenly released from prison, according to the state’s Department of Corrections.
{mosads}On Oct. 25 at about 11:30 a.m., Tony Maycon Munoz-Mendez, 31, was “released in error” from Rogers State Prison in Reidsville, Ga., department spokeswoman Lori Benoit wrote in an online release.
Munoz-Mendez, who was jailed in April 2015, was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of rape and aggravated child molestation.
It’s not clear how the mistake took place or when officials released the error. Benoit told CNN that the department is reviewing the details surrounding his release.
The department’s fugitive unit and U.S. marshals are involved in the search for Munoz-Mendez, the statement said.
