“Rumors of War,” the well-known bronze sculpture of a black man riding a horse, is set to be permanently installed in Richmond, Va., Tuesday afternoon, The Associated Press reports.
“Rumors of War,” created by artist Kehinde Wiley, was inspired by a statue of Confederate Gen. J.E.B. Stuart, which is also in Richmond. “Rumors of War” was formerly situated in the middle of Times Square in New York.
Wiley is best known for his portraits of black Americans as well as his portrait of former President Obama, which is on display at the National Portrait Gallery.
Virginia’s capital will unveil the statue during a ceremony Tuesday afternoon. Wiley is expected to give remarks and will be reportedly joined by Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) and Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney (D).
