One person was killed and seven others were injured late Wednesday in downtown Seattle after a disturbance became violent.

The Seattle Police Department said in a statement that witnesses told officers that two or more men were involved in a disturbance and began shooting at each other. All suspects fled the scene following the exchange of gunfire.

Among the wounded is a 9-year-old boy. One female victim was killed in the shooting.

No arrests have yet been reported, and the Seattle Police Department is calling on the public to call a hotline with any information they have on the incident.

“Even one incident of gun violence is one too many. We will relentlessly investigate tonight’s shooting at 3rd and Pine until all those responsible are brought to justice. In the meantime, expect to see police officers on this block until further notice,” Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best tweeted.

“We mourn a tragedy like this wherever it occurs,” added Mayor Jenny Durkan (D). “I extend my support, and that of @CityofSeattle, to the victims and their families.”

The Seattle Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill regarding any updates on the shooting or the investigation.

Wednesday night’s shooting is the third to take place in downtown Seattle in two days.
