De Blasio: NYC can ‘only get to Monday or Tuesday’ with current ventilator supply

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) on Friday warned that New York City would run out of its supply of ventilators by Monday or Tuesday, as it tries to combat the coronavirus outbreak.

“I don’t know after Sunday if we’re going to have what we need, and that’s just the ventilators,” de Blasio told CNN’s John Berman. De Blasio said that officials predict that the city will have 5,000 ICU COVID-19 patients that require ventilators.

The mayor added that the city was in dire need of medical personnel as well.

New York state has been the hardest hit part of the country by the virus, with over 92,000 confirmed cases, according to The New York Times. Nearly 52,000 of those cases come from New York City.

Additionally, Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) warned on Thursday that the state would run out of its stockpile of ventilators within the next six days if it didn’t receive further assistance.

The USNS Comfort arrived in New York this week to help with the city’s overflow of patients.
