Massive power outage hits Manhattan

A massive power outage was reported in the upper side of Manhattan early Friday, disrupting commutes and cell service.

Con Edison said in a statement Friday that they are “investigating a problem on our transmission system that caused three networks in Manhattan to lose their electric supply at about 5:13 this morning.”

“The supply has been restored to those networks on the Upper West Side, Harlem and the Upper East Side,” the energy company said.

The outage delayed some subway travel and Metro-North, the commuter rail that transports commuters from outside the city, reported a 10-15 minute delay.

On Thursday Con Edison said that 11,000 Staten Island homes may not have power restored until late Sunday evening due to damages from Tropical Storm Isaias, which caused over 300,000 outages across New York City.
