Video shows car driving through group of protesters in Times Square

Footage emerged Thursday evening showing a car driving through a crowd of protesters in Times Square in New York City.

Spectrum News NY1 reported it is unclear how many were injured as the car charged through a crowd of several people, though witnesses say at least two were hurt in the incident.

Authorities are still looking for the driver, and announced on social media that the investigation is ongoing.

Protesters were demonstrating on the rainy streets of Times Square Thursday evening following the recently released footage showing Daniel Prude, a 41-year-old Black man, being detained with the use of a “spit hood” by police in Rochester, N.Y. Prude died days after losing consciousness.

The demonstrations called for justice for Prude, whose death on March 30 was ruled as being caused by asphyxiation. Prude’s family released footage of his arrest Wednesday after they obtained it through the Freedom of Information Act.

He died two months before the police killing of George Floyd, a Black man, in Minneapolis, which sparked a nationwide protest against police brutality and racism in May.
