New York puts Ohio back on travel advisory list

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) announced Tuesday that Ohio is back on New York’s travel advisory list after the Midwestern state’s recent spike in COVID-19 cases.

This marks the second time Ohio has landed on New York’s list of hotspot states. The Ohio Department of Health reported more than 125,000 confirmed cases as of Tuesday.

Washington, D.C., joined New York Tuesday in adding Ohio to its list of “high risk states.” The orders from both require that anyone traveling from Ohio must quarantine for 14 days upon their arrival.

According to Cleveland.com, Ohio was on New York’s advisory list for several weeks in July and August until a statewide mask mandate and other measures led to a drop in the state’s infection rate.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) said the spike in cases in recent days could be attributed to the resumption of classes at colleges and K-12 schools.

Ohio is joined by Delaware, Maryland and West Virginia as the newest states to be added to New York’s travel advisory list, which now totals 35 U.S. states and territories. D.C.’s list now includes restrictions on travel from 29 states.
