Pickup truck drives through protesters in Buffalo

WKBW 7 Eyewitness News

One protester was injured on Wednesday night after a pickup truck drove through a group of protesters marching in Buffalo, N.Y.

Video captured by WKBW shows the truck accelerating toward a group of people in the street before there is an audible bang.

Protesters are heard screaming, and several are seen attempting to run after the truck as it drives away from the scene.

Officials told the outlet that one person who was on a bicycle was struck. They were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck is reportedly in custody, according to WKBW. The Hill has reached out to the Buffalo Police Department for comment.

Several dozen people gathered in Niagara Square outside Buffalo’s City Hall after officials in Kentucky announced that a grand jury would not bring charges against Louisville police officers for the killing of Breonna Taylor.

One former officer, Brett Hankison, was charged with three lesser counts of wanton endangerment for opening fire and striking a neighboring apartment.

The decision sparked outrage across the country as none of the officers are facing felony charges for the fatal shooting of the 26-year-old medical worker.

During a similar protest in Denver, a driver also struck at least one protester. No injuries were reported, and the driver was reportedly detained.

Two Louisville police officers were shot amid local protests hours after the announcement was made. Both officers, the police chief said, were receiving treatment at a hospital nearby and that a suspect was in custody.
