Police investigating fire at Trump supporter’s home near Twin Cities
Police just outside Minneapolis are investigating a Wednesday morning house fire, with the homeowners claiming they were targeted because of their support for President Trump.
According to The Washington Post, Deana Molla said in a Facebook post that she awoke shortly before 4 a.m. to a “loud explosion.” Her husband and their two young children were asleep in the house at the time, she said.
According to ABC affiliate KSTP, firefighters put out the blaze after it had destroyed a detached three-car garage and three vehicles. Brooklyn Center, Minn., police said a truck displaying a large “Trump 2020” flag was among the wreckage.
Fox affiliate KMSP reported that police said that as the garage was burning, officers noticed the doors included spray painted messages of “Biden 2020,” “BLM” and an “A” with a circle around it, a symbol commonly used to represent anarchy.
Brooklyn Center Police Investigations Cmdr. Garett Flesland said in a statement to the Post that the motive behind the fire was still under investigation.
“We have received much speculation from community members with a wide range of possible motives suggested and offered,” Flesland said on Thursday. “No one has claimed any sort of responsibility. All possible motives are still on the table and being considered.”
Flesland told The Hill that no arrests have been made and that the police department is “keeping an open mind” and “not ruling out” any motives.
KMSP reported that officials from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the FBI are assisting in the investigation.
Molla told KSTP on Wednesday that she was shocked by the fire and spray painted messages.
“To be honest, we didn’t feel threatened. We live in America,” Molla said in an interview with KSTP. “We live in the greatest country on earth and everybody has the right to say what they feel.”
