California shooting leaves at least 4 dead

Authorities are investigating a shooting in Southern California Wednesday that left at least four people dead and two others injured, according to police.

NBC’s Los Angeles affiliate KNBC reported that authorities responded to reports of shots fired around 5:30 p.m. local time in the city of Orange.

The Orange Police Department said they found “multiple victims at the scene, including fatalities,” and the Metro Cities Fire Authority Dispatch later told the local news outlet that four, including a child, were pronounced dead at the scene and two others were taken to the hospital.

Local ABC affiliate KABC reported that the suspected shooter was taken into custody and was one of the two transported to the hospital, though the suspect’s exact condition was unknown.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) tweeted his condolences shortly after reports of the shooting emerged.

“Horrifying and heartbreaking. Our hearts are with the families impacted by this terrible tragedy tonight,” he wrote.
