Demonstrators gather for third night after shooting death of Daunte Wright

Protests continued for a third night outside the police station in Brooklyn Center, Minn., on Tuesday following the fatal police shooting of Daunte Wright.

In footage captured by NBC News, droves of protesters could be seen marching through streets of the city, many with signs and flags reading “Black Lives Matter,” in response to the police shooting.

One Fox News reporter, Lauren Blanchard, also posted footage to Twitter on late Tuesday capturing police trying to disperse to the crowd. Blanchard also said media was warned by police that they would need to evacuate.

Protests against police brutality have broken out in different parts of the nation in recent days over the shooting after the Brooklyn Center Police Department recently released bodycam of the incident.

Wright was fatally shot during a traffic stop on Sunday by an officer that police identified as Kim Potter. Local police said the officer thought she was deploying her Taser but instead fired her service weapon. Potter resigned on Tuesday. 

The shooting has added fuel to a nationwide discussion around police treatment of Black Americans as the country awaits a verdict in former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin’s trial over George Floyd’s death. 

The city where Wright was killed is about 10 miles from where Chauvin’s trial is taking place in Minneapolis.

As the trial entered its 12th day on Tuesday, both Floyd’s and Wright’s families met for a press conference held by attorney Benjamin Crump, who is representing both families.
