Vigils scheduled for Indianapolis shooting victims
Vigils are scheduled for the eight victims of the Indianapolis FedEx facility mass shooting that occurred Thursday.
Authorities were able to identify the victims on Friday, and the vigils are scheduled for Saturday.
The victims were identified as 32-year-old Matthew Alexander, 19-year-old Samaria Blackwell, 66-year-old Amarjeet Johal, 64-year-old Jaswinder Kaur, 68-year-old Jaswinder Singh, 48-year-old Amarjit Sekhon, 19-year-old Karlie Smith and 74-year-old John Weisert.
Family members say authorities got Sekhon’s age wrong, as she was actually 49, and got the spelling of the name and age wrong for Jasvinder Kaur, according to The Washington Post.
They will all receive vigils after 19-year-old Brandon Scott Hole opened fire in the facility with a rifle.
Hole, who was a former employee of the facility, killed himself after the shooting and before police could enter the building.
“She was a hard worker and always wanted to work and was always working overtime and asking for overtime shifts,” Sekhon’s brother-in-law told The Washington Post. “She liked to have a good house, have good cars.”
Sekhon moved to the United States in 2005 and was the only income for her household, as her husband is paralyzed from a disability he has had since birth.
The mass shooting is one of 147 mass shootings across the country in 2021.
